Description

A delightful and elegant smoked salmon brunch platter featuring thinly sliced smoked salmon, fresh herbs, tangy capers, and classic accompaniments like bagels and cream cheese. Perfect for entertaining or a luxurious breakfast spread.

Ingredients

Smoked Salmon

  • 2.5 lb side of smoked salmon

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 1 medium red onion, very thinly sliced (preferably with a mandoline)
  • 2 lemons, cut into small wedges
  • Fresh dill sprigs
  • Fresh chives, snipped
  • Capers, to taste

Accompaniments

  • Bagels, sliced
  • Cream cheese, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Platter: Select a long enough platter for the entire side of salmon and optionally line it with parchment paper for ease of serving.
  2. Expose the Salmon: If your smoked salmon has skin attached, gently peel back part of it to reveal the fish underneath for easier serving.
  3. Arrange Garnishes: Place fresh dill sprigs and lemon wedges around the salmon for a fresh, aromatic presentation.
  4. Add Toppings: Evenly distribute the thinly sliced red onions, capers, and snipped chives over the salmon. Provide extra onions and capers on the side for guests.
  5. Serve with Bagels and Cream Cheese: Place sliced bagels in a basket ready for guests along with ample cream cheese. Have a toaster available to toast the bagels if desired.

Notes

  • Using a mandoline to slice the red onion very thinly enhances texture and presentation.
  • Keep extra lemon wedges on hand for guests who want added zest.
  • Providing a toaster allows guests to enjoy warm, toasted bagels.
  • This platter pairs beautifully with caper berries or thin cucumber slices for extra freshness.
  • Serve chilled or at room temperature for best flavor.
