Description

These Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats combine the classic crispy, gooey texture of traditional Rice Krispies with a luscious homemade salted caramel drizzle for an irresistible sweet and salty dessert. Perfect for parties or an indulgent snack, these treats are easy to prepare and delightfully satisfying.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows (approximately 6 cups, divided)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal

Salted Caramel Topping

  • 20 unwrapped caramels
  • 1 ½ tablespoons heavy cream
  • Coarse salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Spray a 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray and set it aside to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add 4 cups of the mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add Rice Krispies and Remaining Marshmallows: Stir in the Rice Krispie cereal and the remaining 2 cups of mini marshmallows. Continue mixing until the marshmallows are slightly melted and everything is evenly combined.
  4. Press into Pan: Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan and use a silicone spatula to press it down evenly, ensuring it sets uniformly.
  5. Melt Caramel and Cream: In a small microwavable bowl, combine the unwrapped caramels and heavy cream. Melt in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth (approximately 1 minute 15 seconds total).
  6. Cut and Drizzle: Once the Rice Krispie mixture has set slightly, cut it into squares. Place the squares on parchment paper and drizzle each with the melted caramel. If the caramel begins to harden before fully used, warm briefly in the microwave.
  7. Finish with Salt: Sprinkle coarse salt over the caramel-drizzled squares to provide a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors.

Notes

  • Use a silicone spatula for easy mixing and pressing the treats evenly.
  • Make sure to melt the caramel slowly in increments to avoid burning.
  • Coarse salt enhances flavor but can be adjusted to taste.
  • Store treats in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
