Description

A quick and flavorful guacamole recipe that combines ripe avocados with zesty lime, spicy jalapeño, and fresh cilantro for a perfect dip or topping. Ready in just 10 minutes, this classic Mexican-inspired dish is easy to customize and serve with chips or veggies.

Ingredients

Guacamole Ingredients

  • 2 medium ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion (or shallot)
  • 2 Tbsp diced jalapeño, seeds removed (adjust for spice preference)
  • 2-3 Tbsp lime juice (or lemon juice as a substitute)
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/8 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, adjust for spice)
  • 1/4 cup minced cilantro (lightly packed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Dice the red onion and jalapeño while removing the seeds to reduce heat. Mince the cilantro and halve the avocados, removing the pits.
  2. Mash Avocado Mixture: In a shallow mixing or serving bowl, add the avocado flesh, diced onion, jalapeño, lime juice, sea salt, ground cumin, and red pepper flakes. Use a fork or potato masher to mash everything together until combined but still slightly chunky according to your texture preference.
  3. Add Cilantro and Adjust Seasoning: Stir in the minced cilantro gently. Taste the guacamole and adjust the flavors as needed by adding more lime juice for acidity, cumin for smokiness, red pepper flakes for heat, cilantro for herbal freshness, or salt to enhance the overall flavor.
  4. Serve: Serve the guacamole immediately with tortilla chips, fresh vegetables, or as a topping for your favorite dishes.
  5. Store Leftovers: To extend freshness, squeeze a bit more lime juice over the surface to prevent oxidation and cover with a lid or plastic wrap touching the guacamole’s surface to minimize air exposure. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. If browning occurs on top, simply scoop off the discolored layer to reveal fresh guacamole underneath.

Notes

  • Choose ripe avocados that yield slightly under gentle pressure for the best flavor and texture.
  • Adjust jalapeño and red pepper flakes according to your spice tolerance.
  • Lime juice helps prevent browning and adds bright acidity.
  • Use a fork or potato masher rather than a blender for better texture control.
  • Consume fresh for best taste; stored guacamole may lose some vibrancy and texture over time.
