Description
Mummy Jalapeno Peppers are a festive and spicy appetizer perfect for Halloween or any fun gathering. Fresh jalapeños are stuffed with a creamy blend of cream cheese and shredded cheddar, then wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough to resemble mummies. Candy eyes add a playful finishing touch, making these poppers irresistible and visually delightful.
Ingredients
Jalapeño Peppers
- 6 jalapeño peppers
Cheese Filling
- 4 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Other
- 1 can crescent roll dough
- 24 candy eyes
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place an oven-proof wire rack over a baking sheet and lightly spray the rack with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Jalapeños: Cut the jalapeño peppers in half lengthwise. Carefully remove all seeds and membranes from each half to reduce the heat and create a cavity for the filling.
- Make Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine the cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese. Mash them together thoroughly using a fork until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
- Stuff Peppers: Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeño half, ensuring not to overfill so the filling stays contained during baking.
- Cut Crescent Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface and cut it into thin strips suitable for wrapping around the jalapeños.
- Wrap Jalapeños: Take the strips and wrap them around each stuffed jalapeño half to mimic mummy bandages. Start wrapping twice around the top of the pepper, leave a small gap for the eyes, then continue wrapping the rest of the pepper.
- Arrange on Rack: Place the wrapped jalapeño poppers on the prepared wire rack to allow even cooking all around.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the crescent roll dough is lightly browned and the cheese filling is hot and bubbly.
- Add Eyes: Remove from the oven and immediately press two candy eyes into the gap left in the crescent dough to complete the mummy look.
- Serve: Serve the mummy jalapeño peppers warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid skin irritation from the capsaicin.
- Remove jalapeño seeds thoroughly to control spiciness; leave some if you prefer extra heat.
- Crescent roll dough strips should be thin but sturdy enough to wrap without tearing.
- Use room temperature cream cheese for easier mixing and smooth filling.
- Serve with ranch or sour cream dip for added flavor contrast.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven for best texture.
