Description

Mississippi Chicken is a flavorful and tender slow cooker recipe featuring boneless skinless chicken breasts cooked with tangy pepperoncini peppers, ranch seasoning, au jus gravy mix, and butter. This simple yet delicious meal requires minimal preparation and results in juicy shredded chicken perfect for sandwiches, salads, or served on its own.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 large chicken breasts (boneless, skinless)

Seasonings & Sauces

  • 12 pepperoncini peppers plus 1/4 cup juice from the jar
  • 1 (1 ounce) packet ranch seasoning mix (e.g. Hidden Valley)
  • 1 (1 ounce) packet au jus gravy mix

Fat & Butter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), cut into pieces

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken: Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker, arranging them evenly.
  2. Add Pepperoncini: Pour in 1/4 cup of pepperoncini juice over the chicken and scatter the 12 whole pepperoncini peppers on and around the chicken breasts.
  3. Season: Sprinkle the ranch seasoning mix and the au jus gravy mix evenly over the chicken and peppers.
  4. Add Butter: Distribute the pieces of unsalted butter on top of the seasoned chicken.
  5. Cook: Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours, or alternatively on low for 6 to 8 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  6. Shred Chicken: Once cooked, remove the chicken breasts and shred them using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and toss with the accumulated sauce until evenly coated.
  7. Serve: Serve the shredded Mississippi Chicken hot with your choice of sides or as desired. Enjoy!
