Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups Corn Chex cereal
- 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
- 2 cups mini pretzels
- 1 cup bagel chips
- 1 cup salted peanuts (optional)
Wet and Seasoning Ingredients
- 1/2 cup salted butter, cut into tablespoon pieces
- 1/2 cup hot honey
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C). Line two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a very large bowl, combine Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, mini pretzels, bagel chips, and salted peanuts if using. Gently toss to evenly distribute all the components.
- Prepare Hot Honey Butter Mixture: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter completely. Whisk in hot honey, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and kosher salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Remove from heat to prevent burning.
- Coat the Mix: Pour the warm hot honey butter mixture over the cereal mixture. Using a large spatula, gently stir everything together until all the pieces are evenly coated with the spicy-sweet glaze.
- Bake: Spread the coated Chex mix evenly on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, stirring thoroughly every 15 minutes. Each time you stir, rotate the pans and switch their positions between the middle and bottom racks to promote even baking and prevent hot spots.
- Cool: Remove the baking sheets from the oven and allow the mix to cool completely on the trays. The mixture will crisp up as it cools, forming clusters.
- Serve or Store: Once cooled, break into clusters if needed and serve immediately. Alternatively, store in an airtight container at room temperature to keep fresh.
Notes
- You can omit the peanuts for a nut-free version.
- Adjust the amount of hot honey to vary the spice level.
- Ensure you stir and rotate the pans regularly during baking for even cooking.
- Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness for up to 2 weeks.
- If unavailable, substitute kosher salt with sea salt of similar grain size.
