Description

This homemade pumpkin spice latte is a cozy, flavorful fall favorite made from espresso, warm milk, and a blend of pumpkin puree and warming spices. It's easy to prepare at home using simple ingredients and can be customized with your choice of milk and sweetness level, topped with frothy milk and optional whipped cream for an indulgent seasonal treat.

Ingredients

Espresso Mixture

  • 2 shots espresso (or substitute with 1/2 cup hot freshly brewed coffee)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree (start with 1 tablespoon)
  • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup, to sweeten
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Milk

  • 1 cup milk of choice, preferably one that froths well (oat milk recommended)

Toppings (Optional)

  • Whipped cream
  • Additional pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon for dusting

Instructions

  1. Heat the Milk: Pour the milk into a small pot and warm it over medium-low heat until it is hot and almost simmering, but do not let it boil. This ensures the milk is perfectly heated without burning.
  2. Prepare the Espresso Mixture: Brew your espresso and pour it into a large mug or glass mason jar. Add the pumpkin puree, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract. Stir well until all the ingredients are fully combined.
  3. Froth the Milk: Use a milk frother to froth the heated milk for about 30 seconds or until it becomes foamy. This step adds creamy texture and a lovely frothy top.
  4. Combine and Serve: Pour the frothed milk over the pumpkin espresso mixture in your mug, reserving any extra foam to spoon on top. This layering adds depth and indulgence to the latte.
  5. Add Toppings: If desired, top your latte with whipped cream and sprinkle a pinch of extra pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon for a finishing touch. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade pumpkin spice latte.

Notes

  • If you don’t have pre-mixed pumpkin pie spice, create your own with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon ginger, and 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves or allspice.
  • Use oat milk or another milk that froths well for the best texture and foam.
  • Adjust the maple syrup to taste depending on your preferred sweetness level.
  • Whipped cream topping is optional but adds extra indulgence.
