Description

A simple and nutritious Fruit on the Bottom Overnight Oats recipe that combines creamy rolled oats, chia seeds, and almond milk layered over a sweet fruit puree. This make-ahead breakfast is perfect for busy mornings and can be enjoyed straight from the fridge with no cooking required.

Ingredients

Fruit Layer

  • 1 cup frozen fruit (thawed)
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup

Oats Mixture

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 3/4 cup almond milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fruit Base: Place the thawed frozen fruit at the bottom of a jar (at least 12.5 oz or a 1 pint jar). Using a spatula, mash the fruit thoroughly until it becomes a smooth puree.
  2. Layer the Ingredients: Add the maple syrup on top of the mashed fruit, then add the rolled oats, followed by the chia seeds, and finally pour in the almond milk. There is no need to stir the ingredients.
  3. Refrigerate Overnight: Seal the jar with its lid and place it in the refrigerator overnight to allow the oats and chia seeds to absorb the liquid and soften.
  4. Serve and Store: Enjoy the overnight oats cold straight from the fridge. The oats can be stored refrigerated for up to 4 days for convenient breakfasts.

Notes

  • You can use any type of fruit you prefer, fresh or frozen, though frozen fruit should be thawed first.
  • If you like your oats sweeter, add more maple syrup or a sprinkle of your favorite sweetener.
  • Feel free to top with nuts, seeds, or additional fresh fruit before eating for added texture.
  • Use dairy or other plant-based milk alternatives if almond milk is unavailable or to suit dietary needs.
  • Ensure to use rolled oats for the best texture; quick oats may become too mushy.
