Description

These Delicious Jalapeno Popper Twists are flaky, cheesy puff pastry appetizers packed with a creamy blend of cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and spicy jalapenos. Perfectly twisted for a crispy texture and golden finish, they make an irresistible snack or party finger food served best with your favorite dipping sauces.

Ingredients

Puff Pastry

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed

Cheese Filling

  • 225 g cream cheese, softened
  • 100 g shredded sharp cheddar cheese or Monterey Jack
  • 60 g sliced jalapenos, fresh or pickled
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Dipping Sauces (optional)

  • Ranch, sriracha mayo, or honey mustard as desired

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Mix Cheese Filling: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar (or Monterey Jack), sliced jalapenos, and garlic powder. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
  3. Shape Puff Pastry: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to a thickness of about 6 mm. Cut the pastry into strips approximately 5 cm wide for easy twisting and filling.
  4. Fill and Twist Pastry Strips: Place a generous spoonful of the cheese and jalapeno filling onto one half of each pastry strip. Fold the other half over the filling to enclose it, then gently twist each strip to create a spiral shape.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: Arrange the twisted pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Using a pastry brush, coat the tops with the beaten egg to help achieve a beautiful golden brown color as they bake.
  6. Bake Until Golden: Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes or until the twists have puffed up and turned golden brown, indicating they are cooked through and crisp.
  7. Serve with Dipping Sauces: Allow the jalapeno popper twists to cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauces such as ranch, sriracha mayo, or honey mustard for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is thawed but still cold for easier handling and better puffing.
  • Adjust the amount of jalapenos to control the heat level according to your preference.
  • Use fresh or pickled jalapenos based on flavor preference; pickled gives a tangier kick.
  • You can prepare the twists ahead and freeze before baking; bake straight from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to baking time.
  • Brush the pastries with egg wash thoroughly for a shiny and appetizing finish.
  • Serve immediately for best texture, though leftovers can be reheated in the oven to crisp up again.
