Description

Cinnamon Sugar Donut Bread is a deliciously soft and moist loaf cake infused with warm cinnamon and nutmeg spices. This easy-to-make bread combines the flavors of cinnamon sugar donuts with a buttery loaf texture, perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack. The loaf is generously brushed with melted butter and coated with a cinnamon sugar topping for an irresistible crunchy-sweet crust.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups (306 g) whole milk
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • ¼ cup (½ stick / 57 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray an 8 ½ x 4 ½-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and kosher salt. Stir well to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  3. Whisk wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, room temperature egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. Combine mixtures: Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. The batter should be slightly runny. Do not overmix to avoid a dense bread.
  5. Pour batter into pan: Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly to fill the pan.
  6. Bake the bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 60-70 minutes. The bread is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs and the top has a golden brown color.
  7. Cool the bread: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then carefully remove the bread from the loaf pan and set it on a large piece of parchment paper to finish cooling slightly.
  8. Brush with melted butter: While the bread is still warm, gently brush the entire surface with the ¼ cup melted unsalted butter. This adds moisture and helps the cinnamon sugar topping stick.
  9. Prepare topping mixture: In a small bowl, mix together the ½ cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg until well combined.
  10. Apply topping: Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the butter-coated surface of the bread. Turn the loaf as needed to coat all sides thoroughly. Reserve any leftover topping for another use.

Notes

  • Be careful not to overmix the batter to keep the bread light and tender.
  • If you prefer a stronger cinnamon flavor, feel free to increase the cinnamon in the topping.
  • Leftover cinnamon sugar topping can be saved in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Use room temperature egg to ensure it mixes evenly with other ingredients.
  • Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing to prevent crumbling.
