Description
Delicious and easy Chocolate Cake Pops made from a simple boxed cake mix combined with creamy chocolate frosting, coated in melted chocolate. Perfect for parties and celebrations, these bite-sized treats are fun to make and enjoy.
Ingredients
Cake:
- 15.25 ounces chocolate cake mix (1 box)
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
Frosting:
- 16 ounces chocolate frosting (1 tub)
Coating:
- 10 ounces melting chocolate (1 bag)
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with butter or nonstick spray to prevent sticking. In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix thoroughly until well blended. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 30 minutes or according to the package directions. Remove from oven and allow the cake to cool completely.
- Form the Cake Balls: Once completely cooled, crumble the cake into fine pieces. Add the chocolate frosting and mix well until the crumbs bind together into a dough-like consistency. Scoop the mixture into 1½ inch balls and roll them smooth with your hands. Place the balls on a baking sheet or large bowl and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- Assemble the Cake Pops: Melt the melting chocolate in the microwave by heating in 30-second increments, stirring each time until smooth. Dip the tip of a pop stick into the melted chocolate and then insert it into a cake ball, coating the stick tip to help secure the cake pop. Next, dip the entire cake ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Gently tap the stick on the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate. Allow the chocolate coating to set completely before serving.
- Alternative Cake Balls/Truffles: For cake balls without sticks, melt the chocolate as before, then use a fork to dip each cake ball briefly into the melted chocolate. Let the excess drip off and place on a wax paper-lined tray to set before serving.
Notes
- Use good quality melting chocolate or candy melts for a smooth coating.
- Refrigerate the cake balls to help them hold their shape before dipping.
- You can decorate the cake pops with sprinkles or drizzle with contrasting chocolate before the coating sets.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for 4-5 days.
- Ensure the cake is cooled completely before crumbling to prevent stickiness.
