Description

Cheesy Garlic Cruffins are a delightful fusion of crescent roll dough baked into cinnamon roll shapes packed with a savory blend of garlic, chives, and mild cheddar cheese. This recipe yields 12 golden, buttery, and cheesy cruffins perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a savory snack.

Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 3 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent roll sheets
  • ½ cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 3 cups (339 g) mild cheddar cheese, shredded, divided

Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare muffin tin: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a standard 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Roll out dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll each crescent roll tube into a 12x16-inch rectangle. If using perforated dough, pinch seams to seal.
  3. Make garlic butter: In a medium bowl, combine ½ cup softened butter with 1 tablespoon minced garlic and 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives. This will be used to flavor the dough.
  4. Spread butter on dough: Spread about one-third of the garlic butter mixture evenly over one dough sheet.
  5. Sprinkle cheese: Evenly sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mild cheddar cheese over the buttered dough.
  6. Roll dough into logs: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough sheet into a log shape.
  7. Cut the logs: Cut each log in half to create two shorter logs, then cut each short log lengthwise into halves, resulting in four sections per sheet.
  8. Repeat for remaining dough: Perform the same steps for the other two dough sheets, ending with a total of 12 sections.
  9. Shape cruffins: Take each section and roll it tightly into a cinnamon roll shape with the layered, cheese-filled side facing outward, tucking in the ends to seal.
  10. Place in muffin tin: Place each rolled cruffin into the prepared muffin tin, evenly spaced.
  11. Bake: Bake the cruffins for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown and cooked through.
  12. Prepare garlic butter topping: While baking, whisk together 3 tablespoons melted butter, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon finely chopped chives, and 1 teaspoon kosher salt in a small bowl.
  13. Brush warm cruffins: When cruffins are done and slightly cooled, brush the garlic butter topping evenly over each warm cruffin for an extra burst of flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure to pinch the seams if using perforated crescent roll dough to prevent cheese from leaking.

  • You can substitute mild cheddar cheese with your favorite cheese such as mozzarella or pepper jack for a different flavor.
  • These cruffins are best enjoyed warm, freshly brushed with garlic butter.
