Description

This delightful Baked Brie recipe offers a creamy, melted cheese centerpiece perfect for entertaining or a cozy snack. Featuring soft, warm brie enhanced with a drizzle of honey and fragrant thyme, it's served with crostini and optional grapes for a sweet contrast. Quick to prepare and elegant, this baked brie is ideal for sharing.

Ingredients

Cheese

  • 250 - 500g (8 - 16 oz) round brie or camembert
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 thyme sprig (optional)

Accompaniments

  • 1 bunch purple grapes (optional)
  • Crostini for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) for all oven types to ensure an even bake.
  2. Prepare Brie: Unwrap the brie and place it in a small shallow ovenproof dish slightly larger than the cheese itself or on a piece of crumbled baking or parchment paper for easy transfer after baking.
  3. Bake Brie: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes if using 250g (8oz) of brie, until melted throughout. For larger sizes up to 500g (1lb), increase baking time to 25 minutes. The brie is ready when it feels very soft in the center, almost collapsing under gentle pressure.
  4. Microwave Option: If preferred, melt the brie using the microwave on high for 2 minutes total, in 30 second increments, to avoid overheating while achieving the melt.
  5. Transfer Carefully: Use the baking paper to gently transfer the hot, delicate brie to your serving plate or board to avoid breaking the cheese.
  6. Add Toppings: Drizzle honey over the hot melted brie and top with a fresh sprig of thyme if using to add aroma and flavor.
  7. Serve: Serve the baked brie immediately with crostini on the side for scooping. Provide a knife for cutting through the rind and a cheese or pâté knife for spreading onto crostini or crackers.

Notes

  • Choose high-quality brie or camembert for the best flavor and melt.
  • The thyme and honey are optional but add a lovely complementary flavor.
  • Be gentle when handling hot baked brie as it can be very soft and prone to breaking.
  • You can substitute the crostini with crackers or fruit/nut-flavored bread depending on your preference.
  • If using the microwave, heat gradually in increments to prevent overcooking.
