Ingredients
Pizza Rolls
- 25 wonton wrappers
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 3/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup Parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese
- Extra pizza toppings (optional; e.g., pepperoni, cooked sausage, diced bell peppers, olives)
- 1 egg (beaten with a splash of water for egg wash)
- Olive oil spray (for air fryer basket)
Instructions
- Prepare Air Fryer Basket: Spray the basket of your air fryer with olive oil to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Test Assembly: Assemble one test pizza roll to ensure you can roll it properly before making the rest.
- Fill Wonton Wrapper: Lay out one wonton wrapper and place about 1 teaspoon marinara sauce in the center.
- Add Cheese: Spoon approximately 2 teaspoons of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the marinara.
- Add Toppings: Add any desired extra pizza toppings in small amounts.
- Seal Wrapper: Lightly brush water around the edges of the wrapper perimeter.
- Fold Corners: Fold two opposite corners into the center of the wrapper.
- Complete Folding: Fold the remaining two corners over the first two corners, creating a rectangular sealed packet enclosing the filling completely.
- Place in Basket: Put the sealed pizza rolls seam side down in the greased air fryer basket, taking care not to overcrowd the basket.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the pizza rolls with the beaten egg mixture to help browning.
- Cook: Air fry the rolls at 400°F (204°C) for 8-10 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Cool Slightly: Remove from the air fryer and let sit for about 5 minutes to avoid burning your tongue.
- Serve: Enjoy warm, serving with extra marinara sauce on the side.
- Keep Warm (Optional): Keep finished rolls warm in a 250°F (121°C) oven for up to 30 minutes if needed.
- Freeze (Optional): To freeze uncooked rolls, skip egg wash, place on a lined baking sheet without touching, freeze for 1-2 hours, then transfer to a resealable freezer bag for several months.
- Cook Frozen Rolls: Brush frozen rolls with egg wash or olive oil before cooking, then air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 6-9 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- No Preheat or Defrost: When cooking frozen rolls, no need to preheat or defrost; place evenly spaced in basket.
- Cool After Cooking: Let cooked rolls rest 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Extra pizza toppings can include pepperoni, cooked sausage, diced bell peppers, olives, or mushrooms.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
- Be careful when eating immediately after cooking; the filling can be very hot.
- Use egg wash for a glossy golden finish, or substitute olive oil for a vegan option.
- Frozen pizza rolls can be stored up to several months in the freezer.
